Nutrition is providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth and is 80% of your fitness effort. Exercise is all for nothing is you are not going to give your body what it needs to exercise and rebuild post workout.

Due to the imbalance in today’s society between consumption and exercise, it is now commonly accepted that supplements are necessary for excellent physique. This is false. All you need is a proper balance and for that, you need to know where it comes from, how much you need, and what it does.

Despite the negative connotation that goes along with the word, calories are simply the unit used to measure how much potential energy is stored within a food. No calories, no energy. No energy, no exercise.

There are 6 basic nutrientsto be considered when it comes to training your body:

  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Water

Maintaining a delicate balance between these 6 denominations of nutrition is key for success in any sport or gym. Carbohydrates, Protein and Fat are known as macronutrients as they play a larger role in energy sources and recovery. Vitamins Minerals and Water are known as micronutrients.

*Tip: When reading nutritional labels, be sure you are noting the serving ratio at the top. Many chip bags list their information in servings of three chips. When was the last time you opened a bag of chips and ate only three?
